Sustainability
Kassiopeia Hotels & Restaurants is a Finnish hospitality company that offers high-quality hotel, restaurant, and conference services in Levi and Espoo.
It is important to us to be part of developing more responsible and sustainably produced services and experiences. We understand that responsible action also means continuous learning and development, whether it involves ecological, socio-cultural, or economic responsibility. Our goal is to provide responsibly and sustainably produced services and experiences in collaboration with our partners and customers.
How we operate matters to both the environment and people!
Environmental Responsibility

The Nordic Swan Ecolabel
All of Kassiopeia’s hotels and nearly all of its restaurants have earned the Nordic Swan Ecolabel. The label is part of our daily sustainability efforts!
The Nordic Swan Ecolabel, also known as the Joutsenmerkki, is awarded to products and services that meet strict environmental requirements

Energy
We use renewable energy whenever possible. Our hotel rooms’ lighting is controlled by key cards, and we employ motion sensor lighting to conserve energy. Moreover, we offer charging stations for electric vehicles at our hotels.

Food Waste
We strive to reduce food waste primarily through careful planning. Surplus food is sold through services like ResQ Club to minimize wastage.

Chemicals
Almost all the chemicals we use are environmentally friendly and have the Nordic Swan Ecolabel.

Waste Sorting
Waste is sorted, and efforts are made to reduce its volume.

Circular Economy
Repairs and careful maintenance help reduce consumption. We always strive to repair rather than replace.
Social responsibility

Personnel
Our dedicated and skilled staff are the cornerstone of our success. We regularly conduct employee satisfaction surveys, actively addressing any concerns or challenges raised, with a commitment to enhancing our operations based on feedback. Our work environment is considerate, equal, and fair. We acknowledge and reward good performance through our Well-Done awards.

Safety
Ensuring the safety of both our customers and staff is important. We provide annual safety training for our employees and undergo regular inspections by authorities. Our staff is trained in information security awareness.

Culture and Community
We actively engage in supporting local hobbies and activities. In Espoo, we support children and youth sports teams, and in Kittilä, we contribute to the establishment of a dog hall.
In Levi, we’ve provided space for the Samiland exhibition, coordinated by Ante Aikio. The exhibition delves into the rich history, culture, and mythology of the Sámi people, over thousands of years.

Local Products and Services
We strive to choose local suppliers to support the local economy and reduce the environmental impact of transportation.
Economic and Governance Responsibility

A Finnish Company
We are a Finnish company and pay our taxes in Finland. It is an honor for us to contribute to promoting Finnish tourism and, in doing so, to create employment opportunities.

Food Safety
Food safety inspection results for our restaurants are available on the Oivahymy.fi website.

World Ecolabel Day celebrates reliable environmental labels!
It can sometimes be difficult to assess how environmentally friendly products and services truly are — the Nordic Swan Ecolabel does the work for you. The Swan label guarantees that certified products and services are better choices for the environment throughout their entire life cycle, from raw materials to recycling.
For us, the Swan label also means taking concrete action every day. We respect the environment by sorting and reducing waste, offering plenty of vegetarian and organic food, favouring ecolabelled products, and reducing energy and water consumption. In addition, our staff receive regular environmental training.

Reducing Food Waste Together
22.9.2025
Restaurant Freja (Hotel Matts)
During Food Waste Week, we want to focus on an important topic — reducing food waste. In Finland, around one sixth of all restaurant food ends up as waste.
At Freja, we encourage our guests to take only as much food as they know they can eat. Let’s reduce food waste together!
