Hotel Matts’ Jopos
Guests staying at Hotel Matts can borrow Jopo bikes free of charge. Perfect for relaxed city cycling in Matinkylä and nearby areas.
City bikes
Helsinki Region Transport (HSL) city bikes are also available in Espoo. Numerous bike stations make it easy to rent a bike via the HSL app. There’s a bike station right outside Hotel Matts.

Espoo Waterfront Walkway
This 40+ km coastal route stretches from Laajalahti to Saunalahti. Matinkylä is located right in the middle, making Hotel Matts the perfect starting point in either direction. Explore the route map.

Stopover spots east of Hotel Matts:
1. Nokkalanniemi
Nokkalanniemi is home to the charming seaside café-restaurant Nokkalan Majakka, located in the Nokkala marina. Nokkalan Majakka is open year-round, and during summer, it offers service on a rooftop terrace. Near the marina, you’ll also find a popular ice cream kiosk. It’s the perfect place to pause, refresh, and enjoy the sea view.
2. Matinkylä Beach
Located just next to Nokkala, Matinkylä Beach is supervised during the summer season and features showers and changing rooms. The beach also has beach volleyball courts that add to the fun on sunny days.
3. Haukilahti Marina
Haukilahti Marina is a beautiful and lively seaside hub that blends boating culture with a relaxed coastal atmosphere. Several boat clubs operate in the marina, and the lively harbor activity offers visual interest for all ages.
4. Haukilahti Beach
Haukilahti Beach, also known as Mellsten Beach, is located on the Mellsten Peninsula along the waterfront route in Haukilahti, Espoo. It’s one of the most popular swimming beaches in Espoo. During summer, the beach is supervised and offers showers and changing rooms. There is also a beach volleyball court.
5. Toppelund Beach
Toppelund Beach offers a pleasant swimming spot near Haukilahti. Amenities include changing rooms and a shower, and there is also a separate dog swimming area nearby.
6. Westend Beach
Westend Beach is located in southern Espoo, near the Länsiväylä highway. The beach has showers and changing rooms, and during the summer season, lifeguards are on duty. For children, there is a playground and climbing frame, while fitness enthusiasts can make use of outdoor gym equipment.
7. Keilaniememi
The Keilaniemi waterfront promenade offers stunning views out to sea and toward the silhouette of Helsinki. The area’s modern architecture creates an interesting contrast with the surrounding nature.
8. Aalto University Campus, Otaniemi
Otaniemi’s campus area combines Alvar Aalto’s iconic architectural designs with modern campus life. Open courtyards and leafy walkways provide pleasant places to sit and relax.
9. Villa Elfvik
Located on the shore of Laajalahti Bay, Villa Elfvik is a nature house with surrounding nature trails, offering a great year-round nature experience along your cycling route. The trails provide educational information about local nature and history for all ages.
10. Gallen‑Kallela Museum
Situated in Tarvaspää on the shores of Laajalahti, the museum was once the studio home of Finnish artist Akseli Gallen-Kallela. The museum showcases his paintings, drawings, and graphic works, along with changing exhibitions of contemporary art. It’s an ideal stop for lovers of both art and nature.
Stopover spots west of Hotel Matts:
1. Nuottaranta
Nuottaranta is a beautiful, park-like area that is well-suited for families with children. The area features a dedicated playground, Nuottaniemen leikkipuisto, where young visitors will find plenty to do.
2. Suomenoja Bird Pond
An excellent stop for nature lovers, where you can spot a variety of bird species from spring to autumn. The area includes a birdwatching tower, informational signs, and a peaceful atmosphere in the heart of nature.
3. Villa Rulludd
Located in Kaitaa, on a beautiful peninsula along the Espoo Waterfront Walkway, Villa Rulludd is a unique villa setting where the culturally influential Kihlman family spent their summers for over a hundred years. Since the 1870s, this villa has been a place to celebrate the joys of summer, tranquility, and retreat from the city rhythm.
4. Hanikka Beach
Hanikka Beach is located in southern Espoo, in the Soukka area. It is supervised during the summer season and offers changing rooms.
5. Hanikka Nature Trail
The Hanikka Nature Trail starts near Hanikka Beach and is approximately 5 km long. It loops between Suinonsalmi, Kaitalahti, and Soukansalmi. The trail traverses varying terrain including forest paths, rocky sections, and boardwalks. Combine your bike ride with a nature walk!
6. Kasavuori Soukka
This elevated rocky viewpoint offers spectacular views over the Espoo coastline. Kasavuori is a tranquil and nature-rich stop where you can pause, relax, and admire the sea.
7. Kivenlahti Beach
A laid-back stop at the western end of the Espoo Waterfront Walkway. The beach is supervised in summer and includes showers and changing rooms. Services also include outdoor fitness equipment and a beach volleyball court, with outdoor fitness equipment and a volleyball court.

Located in the heart of Espoo, Central Park offers diverse nature settings, from forests to meadows and rocky landscapes. There are several paved and forest cycling paths suitable for a variety of fitness levels.

Archipelago boat route for cyclists in summer
Espoo’s unique archipelago boat route lets you combine cycling and sea travel. The route includes ferry legs and island stops – perfect for exploring the seaside from a fresh perspective.
For example, ride from Hotel Matts to Nokkala pier, take a ferry to either Otaniemi or Kivenlahti, then cycle back along the Espoo Waterfront Walkway.
